Herbed Texas Toast
This recipe is adapted from an old King Arthur Flour recipe. It is a super-quick break, great for whipping up for grilled cheese sandwiches or serving alongside soft-boiled eggs!
  • Prep Time:
  • Cook Time:
  • Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • (3 cups) All-Purpose Flour (organic)
  • (2 1/2 tsp) instant yeast
  • (2 tsp) sugar
  • (1 1/4 tsp) salt
  • (1/4 tsp) baking soda
  • (2 tsp) mixed italian herbs (dried)
  • (1 cup) Whole Milk
  • (1/4 cup) olive oil
  • (1/3 cup) water

Directions

If you have a stand mixer this recipe is particularly easy with a dough hook.  If not, this can be made easily with a mixing bowl and wooden spoon as well.  Combine dry ingredients and whisk together.  Then warm up the liquid ingredients until they are lukewarm.  Add liquids to dry mixture and mix until dough is stiff enough to hold its shape to too slack to be kneaded by hand.

Then spoon batter into a greased 8.5" x 4.5" loaf pan.  Cover with lightly greased plastic wrap and leave to rise in a warm place for an hour or until it has crowned over the op of the pan.

Meanwhile preheat an oven to 350F.  Bake the risen loaf in the oven for 35 minutes. Once you remove your golden loaf from the oven turn onto a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.
